The Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) provides faculty with technical and instructional support, time, and funds to implement projects designed to improve student learning and success at IUPUI and IUPU Columbus. In addition, the grants enable faculty competitiveness for external educational or curricular improvement grants and increase faculty involvement in pursuing the scholarship of teaching and learning.
CEG funds will support projects in two tracks: the General Track and the Intergroup Dialogue Initiative Track. Individual faculty members can apply for up to $5,000. Teams of three or more faculty working on three or more courses can apply for a maximum of $15,000 per proposal. The grants are open to IUPUI and IUPU Columbus full-time faculty. Participants will examine different types of student work and activities across disciplines, as well as examples of assessments that measure learning that ranges from remembering to applying to creating. Assessment of learning can take many forms – papers, activities, projects, quizzes, and exams. This session will provide an overview of the Quizzes, Assignment, and Discussion tools in Canvas. Participants will practice using these tools with either their own content or examples provided. Lastly, Canvas Rubrics and Outcomes will be briefly addressed.

In this session, participants will discover evidence-supported slide show presentation techniques that will encourage learning and promote engagement. To make the most of this session, participants should have proficiency with PowerPoint, Keynote or similar slide show authoring tools.

With the advent of Canvas as IU’s learning management system and Taskstream as the new ePortfolio platform, life is getting much more interesting for ePortfolio users at IUPUI! Staff of the Center for Teaching and Learning are already immersed in helping faculty transfer courses from Oncourse to Canvas, and they’re also rapidly coming up to speed with Taskstream. This workshop will provide an overview of current planning for ePortfolio transitions, including demonstration of the Taskstream Directed Response Folio (equivalent function to Oncourse’s matrix) and a hands-on introduction to the presentation component of Taskstream, known as WebFolio.
Enhancing Teaching and Learning with Intergroup Dialogue

Intergroup dialogues are facilitated, face-to-face interactions between individuals from two or more social identity groups. They focus on issues related to social justice, social group membership, identity, and the positionality (privilege and oppression) of the groups represented. Based on research, intergroup dialogue processes greatly enhance both cognitive and experiential learning around topics involving diversity, cultural competence and social justice when compared to traditional content courses on the same subjects absent IGD teaching components.
This workshop will:
- Describe intergroup dialogue and the four-stage learning model adapted from the University of Michigan Program on Intergroup Relations (www.igr.umich.edu)
- Share research demonstrating the benefits of sustained IGD processes to foster greater commitment among students to issues of diversity and social justice than more traditional diversity education programs
- Provide guidance to participants on considerations for incorporating IGD into their courses, classroom activities, and experiential and co-curricular learning opportunities
- Discuss future opportunities for curriculum development support for faculty interested in incorporating IGD into their curriculum, teaching and research

Join Dr. Corey Dolgon, labor sociologist and director of Stonehill College’s Office of Community Based Learning, for a lunch conversation in which we examine the role of community organizing in the critical service learning classroom and practical strategies to infuse community organizing principles into your classroom.
NSF-sponsored STEM Interactive Web-Based Workshops
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the IUPUI STEM Education Research Institute (SERI) are hosting 5 upcoming NSF sponsored STEM - Interactive Web-Based Workshops (IWBW); each of which will be presented by former NSF Program Directors in the Directorate for Education and Human Resources and is facilitated by an IUPUI faculty member.
These workshops are primarily intended for all STEM faculty members who are interested in NSF educational proposals or already have a funded project. These programs are designed to engage local participants in discussions related to the workshop topic, interdisciplinary collaboration and will enable local sites to interact with the entire virtual group.
Attending some or all of these workshops may give faculty a competitive edge in developing STEM educational projects and writing successful NSF proposals. Each IWBW workshop lasts approximately two hours and will focus on the workshop topics below.

FACET Offers SoTL Travel Grants
The Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) and the Mack Center for Inquiry on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning are pleased to announce a partnership that will offer travel grants to faculty presenting SoTL work at a conference.
Applications for funding of faculty travel to conferences, as presenters, will be evaluated and awards made twice a year. Grants are for allowable costs as delineated by IU Travel Management up to $750. Faculty are encouraged to combine this funding with other sources.
The fall application deadline is July 1st for travel that will be completed by the following January. The spring application deadline is December 1st for travel that will be completed before the start of the next academic school year.
